The Idaho State city of Rupert, with a population of 5,600, lies in Minidoka County and is the home of Rupert Downs raceway. The city of Rupert was founded in 1906, developing around the Minidoka Reclamation Project and Minidoka Dam which was completed in 1906. The 4 furlong oval track, complete with 366 metre separate chute, is on the Minidoka County Fairgrounds, holding its inaugural meeting on 3rd September 1964, and now forms an integral part of the Idaho Fair Circuit. It offers a programme of 5 days of racing annually, including celebrating Independence Day on 4th July, and culminating in the Rupert Downs Maiden Challenge.
